What Is The Golden Eye?
The Golden Eye is the most prestigious of the prizes awarded at the Zurich Film Festival 2015. Kiefer Sutherland won it last night at a ceremony near the Opera House.
The Square of the Opera House is the center of glamour of Prize night and where people sit, walk, have a drink or a chat while waiting for the stars to appear on the Green Carpet. The official ceremony is then held in the nearby cinema, Corso. Zurich is the ideal city to see A-list actors and celebrities because it’s small, perfectly organised, safe and clean, and crowds are always polite and well behaved: you can watch the stars and photograph them from a relatively close distance. A perfect spot to try out Sony Xperia Z5 Compact Phones.
British-born Canadian actor, film producer, and film director Kiefer Sutherland is known for both his film career (he starred in more than 70 movies, including Young Guns, The Lost Boys, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, A Few Goof Men, The Three Musketeers) and his TV career. Sutherland won two Screen Actors Guild awards, an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his role as Jack Bauer on the critically acclaimed television series “24″, that made him once again world-wide famous.
The way Kiefer Sutherland has reinvented himself throughout his career is a testament to the rare acting skills he exhibited at a young age and honed as his roles evolved through various mediums, said ZFF directors Karl Spoerri and Nadja Schildknecht.
Second Day At The Zurich Film Festival 2015
Being afraid to be late, we skipped dinner and arrived at the Green Carpet too early. So we sat down for a snack at a nearby restaurant and, in typical Zurich fashion, we heard the limo arriving and people politely cheering. You are never too early in Switzerland!
We paid and rushed out to see Kiefer Sutherland arrive, so for sure we could test our new phones, the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact Phones: they have the fastest auto-focus of all smart phones so you can practically take pictures by moving. And we did move…we run!
Kiefer Sutherland spent time with the audience and talked to everybody who asked him to. A great professional and a gentleman with perfect manners, and ready for a laugh as well.
The press (i.e.: us monsters too) was escorted to a side entrance of the cinema where the ceremony was held. A brief collection of Sutherland’s movies was shown on the big screen. Even two girls like us, totally self-absorbed and busy with our phones, became immediately transfixed by watching the magic of acting.
Here he was: a young Sutherland in a cowboy role, a rough Sutherland shooting, a romantic Sutherland sofly speaking to a beautiful woman…the audience was hypnotized and there wasn’t one eye that didn’t focus on the big screen. Even though the “movie” was only made by a collection of different movies, Kiefer gave us one emotions after the other. Acting is a beautiful art, and Sutherland made us travel to many different worlds in the space of a few minutes.
Sutherland thanked jury and audience and talked from his heart – everybody could feel it. He said his life has been the best life he could imagine, and gave a warm thank you to his father, Donald Sutherland, one of the greatest actors of our time. He also made sure the audience could feel how grateful he was to every single person sitting in the theatre, following him or enjoying his movies. Humble, but warm and friendly at the same time, Sutherland gave us a lesson in professionalism and ability to communicate.
After a warm applause, the audience saw the latest of Kiefer Sutherland’s movies, Forsaken, a western-inspired film in which he stars alongside his father , Golden Globe and Emmy winner Donald Sutherland (The Hunger Game, Citizen X). Demi Moore and Brian Cox complete the cast.
It was time to go home, download the pictures, report and pack for Milan Fashion Week…thank you Zurich Film Festival 2015, we will be back next week for more cinema and fashion events.
