The Best Spent 5 Euro of My Life

Beatrice Lessi

✨Follonica. Sunset. A golden beach becomes a stage.✨

Picture this: a man who’s one part vocalist, one part DJ, one part personal trainer, and one part Sacha Baron Cohen’s long-lost Tuscan cousin, takes center sand. He’s here to lead a fitness class—but not your average, polished, sterile sort. Oh no. This is beach-body madness, and every limb in sight is either flailing with joy or pumping to the beat of Italian trash pop classics.

The crowd? Italian ladies of every decade. Nonna squad front and center, neon leggings blazing. If you think cardio’s just for the young, think again—these women own the sand. Their glittery headbands have more sass than my entire suitcase.

And the cost of entry to this joyful chaos? Five euro. That’s it. No sleek studio. No gym-branded water bottles. Just a speaker, a sunset, and a soundtrack of tunes everyone knows by heart. By the end, breathless and grinning, we sing those songs aloud—together, off-key and unapologetically loud.

When I travel, I always sniff out the local movement scene: free classes, hotel yoga on the roof, beach workouts, zumba flash mobs—you name it. And here’s my advice: *don’t be snobbish, don’t hesitate. Just jump in.* You might wobble through the moves or confuse the steps, but honestly, who cares? The goal isn’t perfection. It’s participation.

💃 Moving your body is a celebration, not a punishment.

You get sweaty, you laugh at yourself, you try something new. And best of all? You do it with people who remind you that joy doesn’t require a boutique gym or a personal coach. Sometimes, it shows up as a fluorescent-clad nonna cheering you on to the beat of “Felicità.”

So if you’re ever in Follonica—or any town with a sunset, a speaker, and a little local flavor—grab your metaphorical glitter belt and go. Spend the five euro. You’ll leave with sore cheeks (from smiling), maybe a new friend, and absolutely no regrets.

Because sometimes, the best workouts come with sand between your toes and a soundtrack that makes your heart sing louder than your lungs .
