He says She says – Karma Chameleon

Beatrice Lessi

Bathing suits show no mercy but a lot of skin and sometimes unwanted kilos. But again, the Monsters are brave enough to test and display Arena’s latest swimwear.

(Watch: Breitling Superocean Heritage).

He says:

Beatrice, I know you are proud of your healthy body and you have nothing to hide. That’s why I asked Arena Switzerland if they wanted to let us test their latest collection.

What did you think when I invited you to a shooting at an indoor swimming facility?

She says:

I wanted to look like a pro. Badly. And be comfortable, as usual! Ok…and add a bit of make-up.

He says:

At least you didn’t have to go for a swim in the ice cold waters of lake Türlen. This time everything was warm. Of course when you arrived in your multi Chameleons bathing suit things got hot and steamy quickly…

She says:

Yes, my reading glasses! But I admit I was looking at myself in the mirror quite a lot, while getting ready in the changing room. I am Italian and vain. I never wear a random swimming suit. I want to feel confident. Especially when I am half naked.

He says:

Before things get too complicated, let‘s focus on the bathing suits. I’ve loved Arena since I was a kid.

As a passionate swimmer I adored Mark Spitz. He was so awesome. Moustache, great body and those swim briefs with the American flag.

She says:

The Tom Selleck of sport. The confident swagger. The muscles!

He says:

Maybe you can tell I had difficulties to find another word for those skimpy little garments which are often called speedos. They are called after Arenas main competitor brand because Speedo was first in developing these very streamlined shorts. Beatrice be honest, what do you think of swim briefs? I mean they don‘t leave much to the imagination, do they?

She says:

I can assure that, depending on the swimmer, I can imagine A LOT more.

He says:

As a woman, what do you prefer? Bikini, Monokini or swimsuit? And why?

She says:

It depends on the occasion. In the pool, a classic Arena is unbeatable, and by now I have a small collection. You wouldn’t be able to tell which one is old from the latest one, as they are all timeless.

But on the beach you want to get as much sun as possible, and get changed into an Arena just to go home.

Monokini is for when you’re sailing and nobody sees you, or when you meet Robinson Cruise. Hopefully he looks like Mark Spitz…

He says:

Let‘s talk about style. I am sure you love the Multi Chameleons print of this collection. What else do you like on bathing suits? Personally I love that Arena brings out so many different designs. If I had enough budget, I would buy some new swimwear every other week.

She says:

Once a month maybe!

Yes, I normally buy a solid color swimming suit, then a print. Then another solid color, then a print. I remember what the preceding purchase was, so I do it instinctively, wihout a precise method. But if I want to look good and able to perform in running gear, why shouldn’t I feel the same with swimming? I want it all.

He says:

I am sure you are aware that Arena is an Italian brand. But did you know that they were founded by Horst Dassler,  son of Adi Dassler, yes the Adidas founder?

She says:

I had no idea, so I have just Googled it.

Arena has German DNA (the founder) but an Italian passport (its company and brand identity). Horst basically invented modern sports marketing, and in 1973… he created Arena. Horst saw how swimmers exploded after Spitz’s 7 Olympic gold medals, and sensed a business opportunity:

👉 Adidas focused on footwear
👉 He would create a swimwear brand

But not in Germany.
Instead, he set it up in Italy, where he had strong commercial partners. Over time, consumers identified it strongly as an Italian swimwear brand.

He says:

Before we get out of the water, lets do a race! Are you in?

She says:

If I am allowed to wear swim flippers, then yes. And only if they match the chamaleon print though.

He says:

Nooo, that would be so unfair. Let‘s make a deal. We do the next story with Arena ambassador Noè Ponti. And then you can challenge him. Now my question is: are you in?

She says:

I wouldn’t be able to beat him even by wearing fins. But my reading glasses would be steamy once more. Noè, did you hear us? Andiamo a nuotare!
