Why Some Colors Love You Back – Which Type are You?
Color Analysis / Armocromia
I am a Winter.
Are you similar to me? Or maybe you belong to another season?
I discovered this during a special visit to an atelier in Lausanne, Switzerland. Anna, stylist and designer of by Adori, welcomed me to take my measurements for a new evening dress—similar to the one that went viral last year and reached 5 million views on Instagram.
What I didn’t expect was to learn so much about myself through color.
How I discovered my season
After taking my measurements, Anna suggested we do a color analysis. She explained that armocromia is all about observing how your face, lips, skin, and eyes react to different shades placed near your face.
The results were surprising.
One type of red made my lips almost disappear.
Another turned my skin yellow and tired.
But then—magic. One specific red instantly made my skin look fresher, while my eyes and teeth appeared noticeably whiter.
It wasn’t about liking the color. It was about how the color interacted with me.
Why I am a Winter
Through this process, I learned that I look best in strong, clear colors and high contrast—something I had always felt instinctively, but never fully understood. Pure white, for example, looks much better on me than cream. Deep, cool, saturated tones bring harmony to my face, while muted or warm shades drain it.
That’s classic Winter energy.
How I’ll use color analysis in everyday life
From now on, I’ll use these insights not only for elegant outfits, but also for sportswear and makeup. Choosing the right colors isn’t about rules—it’s about making daily choices easier and more intentional, while feeling confident without trying too hard.
1. Notice which colors you already get compliments on
Think about real life — friends, family, or photos.
-
Compliments in bold reds, blues, emerald, black & white → likely Winter
-
Compliments in pastels and soft tones → likely Summer
-
Compliments in warm, earthy colors → likely Autumn
-
Compliments in light, bright colors → likely Spring
This is often the easiest clue because it’s based on what already works.
2. Look at how your skin reacts to colors
Stand in natural light with no makeup and hold different colors near your face.
-
Bright, clear colors make you glow → Winter or Spring
-
Soft, muted colors look better → Summer or Autumn
Pay attention to whether your skin looks fresh or tired.
3. Check warm vs. cool tones
Try:
-
Silver vs. gold jewelry
-
Blue-based red vs. orange-based red
If cool tones look better → Winter or Summer
If warm tones look better → Spring or Autumn
4. See how much contrast you have naturally
Compare your hair, skin, and eyes.
-
High contrast (very light + very dark) → Winter or Spring
-
Low contrast (similar lightness levels) → Summer or Autumn
High contrast usually means you can handle stronger colors.
5. Test black and white vs. beige and brown
This is a quick visual check:
-
Black & pure white → Winter
-
Soft white & gray → Summer
-
Cream & brown → Autumn
-
Ivory & camel → Spring
So… are you a Winter like me? Or does another season define you better?
