A Trip to the Hottest Men in the World
In Italy, we don’t say “that guy is hot.” We say, “he’s a Bronzo di Riace.” And if you travel to Calabria, you will certainly agree. The Bronzi di Riace are two magnificent ancient Greek bronze statues of warriors, discovered in the sea near Riace, Calabria, in 1972. These statues are renowned for their lifelike detail and impressive craftsmanship. They are housed in the National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria. Legend has it that when the statues were discovered, the divers who found them couldn’t believe their eyes, thinking they had stumbled upon real-life Greek gods.
Recently, I attended a presentation organized by Edelweiss and the Camera di Commercio Svizzera, where they announced a brand new direct flight from Zürich to Lamezia Terme, Calabria. This makes it easier than ever to visit this stunning region.
During the presentation, an archaeologist gave us a brief history of Calabria, and what stuck most in my mind was that wine and oil have been produced here for an astounding 4000 years! I initially guessed 500 years, but the truth is, this region has been cultivating these staples since ancient times, making it one of the oldest wine and oil-producing areas in the world.
In addition to its rich history, Calabria offers plenty of reasons to visit:
– Sports: You can enjoy activities such as hiking in the Aspromonte National Park, kitesurfing along the Ionian coast, and scuba diving in the crystal-clear waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
– Culture: Calabria boasts a wealth of cultural attractions, including ancient ruins, beautiful churches, and vibrant festivals celebrating local traditions.
– Beaches : With its stunning coastline, Calabria offers some of the most beautiful beaches in Italy, such as Tropea, known for its white sandy shores and turquoise waters, and Capo Vaticano, a perfect spot for snorkeling.
Tropea is also famous for its sweet red onion, known as Cipolla di Tropea. Celebrated for their mild sweet flavour, these onions are a key ingredient for many traditional Calabrian dishes. When the speaker spoke about them, an applause broke out in the audience!
So why wait? Pack your bags and head to Calabria, where you’ll not only experience the charm of its ancient history and breathtaking landscapes but also understand why the Bronzi di Riace are the epitome of “hotness.”
This charming region awaits you 😊
