The Porsche Macan is dead! Long live the Macan. How can this be?

Well the Macan with combustion engine is no longer produced. Thats a shame. Or is it not? The new electric Macan looks tempting. Tempting enough to give it a try.

He says: I have to admit; I have never been disappointed by a Porsche. I have had the privilege to test many of them. 911, Cayman, Cayenne, Panamera etc. My favourite Porsche? My own 928 S4 from 1986. But time moves on and thats good. If I was driving a lot, the 20 liters of Super Unleaded Fuel would make me a poor man. The new world looks fantastic. Put some solar panels on the roof of your house and you are driving for free with an electric car. Would you be up for that Beatrice?

She says: It’s smart eco-chic, and wildly satisfying to drive past stations like they’re relics from the past. Sure, the upfront cost stings a little. But once is set up, you’re cruising on sunlight, dear Stephan. Mother Nature called, she’s proud.That’s why I am positive. But when I hear criticism to electric I also have to admit I’m not the expert.  That’s why I like to try it and know more.

He says: Anyways, lets get straight to the electric age with the Macan. What irritates me a bit is that it kept the name from its gasoline powered precedessor. It has pretty much nothing in common with the original Macan. But Beatrice, you are the true Macan expert, since you owned one for many years. Do you know what Macan means?

She says: It’s the Indonesian word for Tiger, which reflects the vehicle’s personality: powerful, agile, and elegant.

He says: Ok, I see. You cheated with Chat GPT! But let’s walk around our Testcar. I love the colour which is called Schiefergrau Neo. Grey- and Sand-colours seem to be en vogue these days. I am sure you have your opinion about that?!

She says: Grey is the most popular color, no doubt. But I did see some cool options online, I especially like the metallic ones: a lighter grey called ice metallic, a “malachite” green, a fountain blue,  and the anthracite brown which resembles my old Macan, that I loved so much. I’d love to see more colors on the streets.

He says: Since men are more about the technical stuff and, of course, horsepower, I was very surprised to learn that our car only has 340 electric horses. One has to consider that the car weighnes over 2.2 tons. Since electric cars have maximum torque delivered from the stand, this is absolutely plenty. Acceleration at the red light is amazing. But before I get lost in technical stuff, I have to criticise one thing. Dear Porsche, I would have loved a „one pedal“ mode for driving. Meaning that you can drive the car with only the accelerator pedal and the breaking is done by the electric helpers. Even electric Fiats can do it…..

She says: Stephan, I know you live for that lightning launch at the red light-makes every morning commute feel like a Formula E audition. But about the one-pedal model? Sweetheart, it’s a Porsche, not s lazy-boy recliner. One-pedal driving is cute for zipping around in a shopping mall parking lot, but Porsche wants you to drive, not just coast through life. It’s all about control, finesse, and yes: being a little extra.

He says: Enough tech talk! Lets talk about our driving experience. I have to say, I absolutely loved my week with and specially in this car. If I had the spare change in my bank account, I would go and buy it. You know what I love the most? The sound of silence! Yes, I am bothered by noise. Dont get me wrong. I still get a kick from hearing my 928s V8 come to live and rumble. But when driving, I prefer a quiet car. It is soooo relaxing!

She says: I love being loud! And quiet too, depending on the occasion. I”m not trying to be nice: I love both options.

He says: Besides the luxury of a silent car, Porsche never disappoints with its interiors. Luxury meets functionality. The seats are super comfy, and even our dogs would love it sitting in the back seats.

She says: Our dogs would sit on needles, to be with us. But this car is seriously comfy! Absolutely first class, and perfect for long trips too.

He says: Sorry, but I forgot one big thing. No its not the Karaoke app in the cars infotainment system. It is what Porsche stands for. Making Sportscars. When they came out with an SUV, the 911 fans were shocked. But it saved Porsches behind in very difficult economic times. The electric Macan still has plenty of Porsche genes. Proof? The starter button is on the left side like in the Le Mans Race Cars. And when I drove the car over a few little pass roads, it handled like a dream. I have never driven an SUV which has knife-sharp handling like this Macan. Just amazing. I did this without you, my dear, because I know you don’t like doing stuff like that…

She says: You were smart to do that. I don’t mind off-road driving, but curves do bother me, if I am not in the driving seat. Having said that, this would be my choice to do a pass road. It’s a smooth, not nervous car. Women love it.

He says: I have to say, I am pretty sure that this is the future. Well, almost. Solid-State-Batteries are going to revolutionize the electric car market. I am convinced of that new battery technology which practically doubles the range from between 500 and 600 kilometres on this car and half the Charging time. In the near future, you will have to drink your espresso at the charging station in a hurry Beatrice.

She says: Finally you are explaining something clearly! There is just one thing missing now…the karaoke function. How about “Sarà perchè ti amo” by Ricchi e Poveri? Let’s goooo!
